“We are sorry for the reason you need us but we are glad you have found us. When a child dies, families mourn and begin the long process of bereavement. Feelings of grief may be overwhelmingly intense, and each family member reacts to such feelings differently. Sometimes the world seems to crash around you and life seems meaningless. As shock fades away, depression, helplessness, despair and loneliness may set in. We hope you will find the courage to join us at one of our meetings. You will find friendship, love and comfort from others who truly understand.
When we come together at meetings, we learn coping skills, share in each other’s grief by providing support and also remember our children. Sharing of experiences also shares the pain and helps one see beyond the grief. Our chapter and other TCF chapters located throughout the nation offer the opportunity for bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings to meet in a safe and comforting environment with others who have “been there,” who understand and who care. Seasoned grievers reach out to newly bereaved family members with the aim of helping both.”
TCF is funded by voluntary tax-deductible donations and there are no dues or fees to belong. TCF has no particular religious affiliation and does not provide therapy. The Verdugo Hills Chapter was founded in May 1987 and continues to meet at the same location.
